How to Monitor an API with Assertions and Scenarios
Choose API health assertions, chain bounded requests safely and diagnose authentication or response failures.

Assert useful behavior
A 200 status can accompany an application error. Add a JSON existence or value assertion for a meaningful health field, a required header or a response-time threshold. Use a dedicated endpoint with predictable output.
Chain only necessary steps
A scenario can authenticate, extract a JSON token and use it in a later account request. Keep the flow short and prefer a restricted test identity. Avoid creating real orders or changing customer data as a routine health check.
Protect credentials
Store authorization values in encrypted secret fields. Never put passwords in URLs, diagnostic messages or assertion text. Extracted sensitive values should exist only during execution and must not enter reports or logs.
Investigate the failed step
Review the failed step number and safe category: authentication, timeout, assertion or destination rejection. Check the API contract and credential expiry. Every scenario step and redirect must still use a permitted public destination.
